I am now in Day Two, Hour Four, with my health insurance provider. Apparently, they are a health insurance premium taker. It is the paying part they don't seem to get.
It is my contention they have a devious but clever plan. They want me to die prior to filing another claim.
Opinions expressed here are mine alone.
Rick... my HORROR story of health insurance is terrible. I an so ashamed of Guidestone and the leadership they have. They could all fall off a cliff and I might not care...much. I've been a Southern Baptist Pastor and BGCT pastor for 35 years and they WILL NOT approve my family for their precious benefits. They decline me every time I seek to apply due to preexisting conditions with my sweet wife.
The first full page on their website details all the reasons they will PROBABLY NOT approve you. Instead of saying nice things about being the group that comes along side the pastors and their families, they only look for ways to DENY you to save a buck or two they feel and say. Shame on you Guidestone!! What is your problem and where is your heart!!!???
So, I am a pastor in a BGCT/ SBC church with NO insurance. We spend 50% of our income on healthcare every month! 50%! Add a tithe of 12% in, 25% for taxes, and we spend 87% of our meager salary before I see a penny of it. But what about living expense? Housing? College for the kids? Trips? Groceries? Cars? Clothes? Get the picture? Guidestone and Uncle Sam get 75% of it! I might as well quit officially church work and become a bum and preach on the streets. I'd make more! Ha. We are living on savings and what I pulled out of retirement. We have no doubt, no outstanding bills, but still are below the poverty level... its Guidestone's fault.
My family is literally one bad car wreck, one cancer diagnosis, or one tragedy away from total ruin. OS Hawkins and the Guidestone folks should be ashamed of their work and policies. I used to think the SBC kings (leaders) / hierarchy wanted to take care of their lowly servants like me... but not any more, I am so ashamed of our leaders Where did your heart go? They say they cannot afford to accept us due to being self insured, but what are they around for if not for their pastors? They take our retirement money! HaHa. No problem there.
What experiences do others have?

I get sent back and forth between the offices in Dallas and Pennsylvania. They repeat the same things over and again, never answer a question and seem a bit put off that I continue to ask them to tell me what they are doing.
Then the doctor reminds me it is my responsibility to get him paid. I tell him I know this.
Then he tells me to call my insurance again, or pony up another $1000. They will be glad to let me get into some payment plan if the insurance will not pay.
America Care? Where do I sign?
